Ethel Waddell Githii Honors Program ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½

ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ employs the Common Application for admission to the College. Students who wish to be included in the Githii Honors review will receive an invitation if she meets the following minimum requirements:

Admission to ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ is highly selective and based on a holistic review of each applicant. We consider academic achievement, leadership, service, and character when evaluating candidates. While we do not have set grade point average requirement and standardized test scores are optional, we do have an academic profile that is set for each year. We do not have minimum requirements for consideration, however the profile provided below will give you an idea of a competitive applicant.

• Fall 2025 Admitted Student Profile
• Average GPA Middle Percentile: 3.91-4.18
• SAT Middle 50th Percentile: 1230-1390
• Average ACT Composite: 26-31

Prospective Honors Program applicants must apply in the Early Decision or Early Action application rounds. Those who are invited will be required to submit an additional essay, provided in the invitation.

In evaluating each applicant, the Honors Program Committee considers:

• Demonstrated commitment to her own intellectual development;
• Strength of her academic program;
• Organization and clarity of her independently produced writing samples;

Rising Sophomore ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½

On May 22nd, 2023, the honors faculty committee voted unanimously to permanently suspend the rising sophomore application. This decision effectively ends additional opportunities for Spelman students, including transfer students, to apply for admission to our program. Students who remain interested in an honors experience are encouraged to pursue membership in academic societies within their major department.
