Sophia Davis, C'2026
Sophia Davis, C’2026, is a sociology and anthropology major and Spanish minor from Brooklyn, New York. She is a member of Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society and the Alpha Kappa Delta National Sociological Honor Society.
An interdisciplinary scholar, Davis serves as the inaugural student music director of Noire, Spelman’s contemporary popular music ensemble, where she arranges and teaches music, hone’s the group’s collective sound, and performs around the country.
She has conducted environmental research at the University of California, Berkeley advancing communities’ access to reliable and affordable drinking water, and been a fellow at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in New York City where she conducted archival studies of entrepreneurship and beauty culture in mid-20th century Harlem.
In these roles she spearheaded in-depth studies that combined her passion for environmentalism with the arts.After graduating she plans on pursuing a Ph.D. to continue conducting research at the intersection of music, culture, and the environment.
