A Passion for Maternal Health and Social Justice

HCOPPP Scholar Maya MooreMaya Moore, C'2027 is a sophomore biochemistry major on the pre-medical track. An aspiring Ob-Gyn, she has a passion for maternal health, social justice and research. This is evident through her previous training as a birth doula through DONA International, completion of research on the topic of "Gestational Diabetes Mellitus and Periconception HbA1c in Non-Hispanic Black Women: Is One Associated With the Other in Pregnancy?” during her first summer with the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine Pathway Program, certification as a Spanish medical interpreter, and acceptance into the LAMIS Women’s Health Leadership Institute with pending Perinatal Patient Navigator certification.

Through her experiences, she hopes to ensure that Black and Brown women are seen, heard, and believed throughout their pregnancy to assist in the eradication of preventable maternal mortality and morbidity.
