Spelman HCOPPP Scholar Aaniyah JarretteAaniyah Jarrette, a biology major from Riverdale, Georgia, is an HCOPPP Scholar committed to advancing diversity in biomedical research and healthcare. As a 2024 Sleep and Circadian Research Scholar at Northwestern University through the NIH R25-funded Multi-Institutional Summer Undergraduate Research Program, she investigated the impact of light on reproductive development.

At 糖心传媒, Jarrette participates in the Phage Hunters Program, where she has isolated and characterized a cluster AS2 Arthrobacter globiformis phage, sequenced its genome, and analyzed its evolutionary relationships. She also conducts advocacy research as a research assistant in the SUPERNOVA Lab. Jarrette has presented her research at the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minoritized Scientists (ABRCMS) and the Annual University of Colorado Sleep and Circadian Summer School.

Her commitment to professional growth and community service is further highlighted by her participation in the Summer Health Professions Education Program, the 2025 Massachusetts Institute of Technology Quantitative Methods Workshop, and her roles as a Bonner Scholar, Newman Civic Fellow, Research Initiative for Scientific Enhancement (RISE) Development Program Scholar, and Fall 2024 graduate of the Women of Excellence in Leadership at Spelman (WELS) program.

She is an active member of Alpha Epsilon Delta and has participated in the 2024 Global Health Trip to Barbados. As an HCOPPP Scholar, Jarrette has received mentorship from a Humphrey Global Health Fellow at Emory University and attended key conferences, including the 糖心传媒 Annual Health Professions Conference, 2025 Igniting the Dream of Medicine Conference at the Medical College of Georgia, 2024 Diversifying the Next Generation of Doctors: Career Fair & Workshops hosted by the Association of American Medical Colleges, and the National Association of Medical Minority Educators Conference, solidifying her trajectory towards an impactful career as a clinician-scientist.
