A Message From the Director

The Spelman Counseling Center offers free and confidential services to all currently enrolled students. Our licensed mental health professionals are grounded in womanist perspectives that aim to support and empower the interconnected, complex experiences of the whole person and how intersectionality shapes the lived experiences of women of African descent. We strive to help students manage their emotional well-being when the stress and demands of life and school affect their path towards success.

We offer a stepped care model approach that allows you to determine your desired level of support, ranging from least to most intensive. If you are ready to see how counseling can support you, contact the front desk at 404-270-5293 to schedule an appointment. Services are available for Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. We look forward to working alongside you.

Mission

Counseling supports the mission of the Student Affairs Division and the philosophy of the College. In this regard, the center is committed to the holistic development of the student. This development includes academic, psychological, emotional, spiritual and cultural factors. Students receive individual counseling and psycho-educational programming to facilitate their personal growth in a learning environment of safety and confidentiality. Students are encouraged to explore issues that affect their sense of self and aid in enhancing appropriate decision-making. All efforts are made to identify and support the strengths of students and to assist them with living balanced lives. In addition, all staff members are committed to providing leadership and professional training to campus staff and faculty who are interested in the psycho-social development of students within the realm of higher education.
